Top 4 Awesome iPhone Social Networking Sites You Never Knew About

Top 4 Awesome iPhone Social Networking Sites You Never Knew About

The last five years have seen two great things being championed and heralded by anyone who has had any measure of interest in the Internet – Social Networking and Apple.

On one hand, the unexpected lightning-fast development of Facebook, Twitter and Zynga to the top of the Internet has inspired even the greatest of companies to stick a hand in the social networking pie. On the other hand, Apple, the company already made relevant by the wildly famous iPod, has generated massive consumer interest in their unveilings of the iPhone. It’s no surprise then that people have put two and two together, and have decided to bring social networking exclusively to the iPhone. Here are 4 of the top choices which you can dive right into right now.

1. Path

Path takes the concept that people want social networking, but they also want it to be personal. Facebook seems like the ultimate offender of this principle, with its wide-sharing features and privacy issues, while Google+ seems to recognize this by providing people with the capability to aggregate their friends into Circles.

Path, which had appeared long before Google+ took the stage, takes this a step further by recommending a social network with only your closest friends. As self-described by its official website, Path is a “simple way to share life and never miss a moment with family”. It only allows you to share your updates with up to 50 of your friends, and the interface behind this activity is clear and seamless enough to encourage it.

Clearly, Path was developed with the intention of making social networking a sweet, enriching experience, as opposed to the social atmosphere that it is today. It is an amazing concept, to say the least, and Path’s burgeoning user base is only proof that people want what they have dreamt up more than ever.

2. Klip

Klip is very new on the social scene – as new as a month perhaps – but it highly deserves a place on this list because of its remarkableness. Klip is basically an app for you to share your videos. That’s right, that’s all it does – share videos you have took with others. The brilliance of it lies in the ability to assign hashtags to your videos, not unlike Twitter, which categorizes the videos according to their nature in the public arena.

So, if you’re a person who likes cat videos, just look up “#cat”, and all the cat videos taken by Klip users show up on your screen! The propensity for its use is just so large in scale; imagine a major event being shared by hashtags – a feature still unavailable on Youtube or Twitter – in a personal space by thousands of individuals. It’ll be like a video version of Twitter all over again.

Klip’s interface is very pleasing, with the small video box giving users the feeling that it was made just for the iPhone. It’s also easy to navigate, and once its number of users grows, the developers will have a goldmine of information sharing on their hands.

3. Pool Party

Google has a tendency for scavenging successful products and making their own version, backed by their enormous resources to take down the existing competition – and it seems like Pool Party is their latest effort yet.

Created by wholly-owned subsidiary Slide (which also created the recently pulled Photovine HP elitebook 8530w notebook battery), Pool Party is an attempt to unseat Instagram, the hipster photo-filtering social app which is presently taking the streets by storm. Pool Party is in its essence a photo-sharing app, where people share their photos into a “pool” with friends in a sort of group album. This creates opportunities to share photos taken from parties, hikes and sleepovers with a select group of people, much in the same way Google+ encourages sharing with Circles.

Pool Party is currently in beta and only accepts invitees, but as with all Google’s products they’re bound to be released to the public soon and gather a quick following. If you simply cannot wait, you can visit here to get an invite.

4. Heywire

With the multi-capabilities of the iPhone, many people seem to have forgotten that the iPhone is primarily a phone; but Heywire’s creators aren’t one of them. Realizing the potential for a worldwide-based, affordable text messaging service, they have created a working, effective version of the Messaging app which bypasses all carrier costs. As long as you have access to the Internet, you can text message to any number from 45 countries, from anywhere in the world.

So how is this different from Whatsapp, Facebook or MSN Messenger on the iPhone? Well, Heywire not only provides you with a Heywire account, it also provides you with a temporary US number which others can reach. This means that even those without the app, or friends using Blackberries or old-school Nokias, can communicate with you by not only receiving but sending text messages to your temporary number, all without incurring the extravagant carrier costs usually associated with international travel.

Apps to keep your iPhone healthy and maintain your iPhone battery

Apps to keep your iPhone healthy and maintain your iPhone battery

Do you have concerns about the security of your data or the battery life on your iPhone? It is essential to properly maintain your device in order for it to work effectively. Explore the following apps to keep your iPhone healthy in this quick and easy round-up.

Lookout Mobile Security

Lookout

Interface – When first launching this app I noticed a sleek and simple looking interface. It is set up to easily navigate through, with three main features — Security, Backup and Missing Device. At the very top it notifies you if everything is ok or if there is a security issue with your device. If you tap a category it will provide you with additional information on that specific subject and tell you if there is a problem.

Features – This is a fairly comprehensive, feature-packed app. It provides features such as — finding your phone if it becomes lost or stolen, managing unsecured Wi-Fi networks and backing up your information. At first I was wondering how I would know if it really was doing what it promised to do, but then I got my answer when it notified me that I was near an unsecured network.

Overall, for a free app this is definitely worth the download. Although in a future update I would like to see the ability to back up your photos. This feature would add a great component to the app that does not exist on the market right now. For all of the other features Lookout offers, you already have most of them on your phone. iCloud backs up your information, and Find My iPhone will locate your phone. The main feature that I adore is the notifications, this feature will help you to be aware of what is going on with your phone’s security.

Battery Doctor +

Battery Doctor

Interface - Battery Doctor + is a free app that has an impressive and easy to use interface. When you first open the app you will notice your battery’s status level in bold at the top of the screen. It will also give you information about your charging habits beneath that. I was an instant fan of this app when I noticed the usage list as I scrolled down the page. I thought this was a genius idea to give users an idea of how much time they had remaining on their battery life for each task they used. A breakdown of some of the tasks displayed included — Internet on Wi-Fi, talk time, video playback, YouTube, 3D Game and many more.

Features – The features are quite remarkable. In addition to a full usage list and time remaining there are also tips on how to lengthen your Acer aspire one zg5 battery life, a comprehensive record of your charging status and tips for proper maintenance of your phone. One thing I particularly liked was the options they give you in the settings menu. You can change your sound selections, the order of your usage list and decide if you would like reminders or not.

The bottom line is Battery Doctor + is the best Acer Aspire 6930 battery and maintenance app for the iPhone that I have come across. Not only is it free but it works perfectly and helps your iPhone be at its best. I would highly recommend downloading this app today.

Battery Life Pro All-IN-1

Battery Life Pro

Interface – This is truly the most unique interface I have ever seen. When you open the app you are met by an interface that looks like it came straight off your dashboard in your vehicle. I have to say it is very cool. At the top it gives you the percentage of battery life you have in the form of a number that looks like the speed you are driving at in your vehicle. Then at the bottom of the screen you will see a breakdown of how long your battery will last.

Features – In addition to Battery Life Pro’s stunning layout it also has some amazing features. You can keep track of your charging time based on your specific needs, learn about battery tips, set an alert to remind you when you need to charge your HP Probook 4710S Battery, and my favorite, change the theme of how you want the information presented to you. They give users seven different options to choose from and they are all absolutely amazing.

Overall I found this app to function excellently well and I really enjoyed the unique graphics. The developers really put a lot of thought into this app. There is nothing I would add or change to make this app better. For a free app, it is definitely worth your time to download it.

All of these apps work effortlessly. If I had to choose the best overall of the three I would pick The Battery Doctor +. Although all of these apps work great, Battery Doctor + worked the best. In order keep your phone working properly make sure you try all of these iPhone maintenance apps.

Do you have a favorite app that helps the overall performance of your iPhone? If you have a suggestion, question or comment please feel free to drop us a line in the comment section below, we would love to hear from you.

Top 5 Best iPhone & iPad Apps for Exporting and Importing Your Photos

Top 5 Best iPhone & iPad Apps for Exporting and Importing Your Photos

With so many wireless iOS networking apps for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch available, there’s very little reason to connect any of these devices to iTunes, except to update the software. Besides, importing and exporting photos using iTunes has never been one of the best features of Apple‘s mobile device process. Let me introduce you to 5 useful apps for importing and exporting photos to and from your iOS device(s).

1. DropBox

The 5 Best iPhone/iPad Apps for Exporting and Importing Your Photos

First off, if you’re an iOS device user, you should definitely have a file sharing DropBox account and app. Dropbox is one of the best ways to sync files between computers and mobile devices, because all your files can be accessed, over Wi-Fi and 3g, via your online account. The latest version of DropBox now allows bulk upload of photos and videos to your account. With the Dropbox installed on your Mac, it’s really easy to drop image content into a folder and then download it onto your iOS device, and vise versa. Another benefit of having Dropbox is that you can connect to your account from within many of the leading wireless file sharing apps, such as they ones I’m describing in this article.

2. PhotoSync

The 5 Best iPhone/iPad Apps for Exporting and Importing Your Photos

What I like best about PhotoSync is that it allows you to selectively choose photos and movie files that you want to sync between your iPhone and iPad, and any computers on your Wi-Fi network, or with a BlueTooth connection. You can even directly import photos from your iOS into your iPhoto and Aperture libraries. PhotoSync also includes a free Mac client for exporting images from your computer to your iOS device(s). And like many photo syncing devices, you can use PhotoSync to transfer files to your Dropbox and Flickr account.

3. RemoteSnap

The 5 Best iPhone/iPad Apps for Exporting and Importing Your Photos

RemoteSnap almost instantly transfers your images directly to your Mac or PC over Wi-Fi—as you snap them on your iPhone, or select existing images from your iPhone Camera or Photo Library. To use RemoteSnap, you will need to download app to your iOS device, and then install the free “RemoteSnap Server” client on your Mac or PC. The setup is very easy. With RemoteSnap’s instant transfer feature, you could set up a Hazel automation to automatically open and display images as they are sent via RemoteSnap, which means others can view your images as you take them.

4. PicBox

The 5 Best iPhone/iPad Apps for Exporting and Importing Your Photos

If you would rather not waste time selecting photos in your iPhone Camera Roll to upload to Dropbox, download a free copy of Picbox, which automatically copies entire Camera Roll of photos and/or videos to your Dropbox account with one single tap. On top of that, Picbox keeps track of which images it has already uploaded to your account. It does not erase your original images on your Camera Roll, it simply copies them to your account.

5. CameraSync

The 5 Best iPhone/iPad Apps for Exporting and Importing Your Photos

As you may have noticed, each of the apps I have described do basically the same thing, but in a slightly different way. But for a completely hassle-free uploading of pictures and video from your Camera Roll to your Dropbox, iDisk, FTP server, Amazon S3 bucket, Flickr or Box.net account—CameraSync will automatically begin the upload process right after you open the app. CameraSync can do all the uploading in the background, which means you can switch away from the app and do other things on your iPhone. CameraSync will also keep track of which images and videos it has already uploaded.

Yes, CameraSync and PicBox are nearly the same, the only difference is how fast you want the upload process to begin.

Well, the above are my picks for the top photo syncing apps. Let me know which ones you prefer.

Top 10 Biggest Questions About iPhone 5

Top 10 Biggest Questions About iPhone 5

Now that Apple’s iPad 2 has launched, the company’s next big product to finish up is the iPhone 5 — or whatever Apple will call its next iPhone, expected to launch this summer.

While the new iPhone will feature updated hardware and may have a new design, we’re just as interested in Apple’s software improvements.

That’s increasingly where the smartphone business is headed, and while Apple’s software is still ahead of the competition in general, there are some areas where rivals Google and Microsoft are doing better than Apple.

What’s in iOS 5?

What's in iOS 5?

While the iPhone hardware is certainly sexy, it’s software that really makes it an iPhone. So what does Apple have planned for the next major version of its iOS software for iPhones and iPads? We asked a dozen iOS developers what they wanted from iOS 5, and their responses included: A better alerts and notifications system; more background processing features — so the New York Times app could download news articles while you’re sleeping, for example; and potentially “widgets” to customize your iPhone’s unlock or home screens.

We’d also love to see a much better camera app, and maybe a better photo management app, more like iPhoto for Mac OS X. The iPhone camera is becoming very important, and while third-party developers like Instagram have done some really cool things with it, it makes sense for Apple to improve the built-in camera software, too.

Is this another whole new iPhone design?

We expect some of the usual updates — faster, more memory, new chip, maybe some new hardware features — and a new design for the iPhone 5.While the iPhone 4 is still an attractive phone, and is still selling, it will be a year old this June. That’s a long time in the smartphone industry, where new phones are constantly coming out. So we don’t expect another iPhone 3GS-like “update” from Apple ever again, where it keeps the same phone case design from one year to the next but only upgrades the guts.

This supposed leaked image could be it — sure looks like the iPad 2 — or could be a fake. But either way, we expect a new design.

The critics have shut up about Apple’s iPhone 4 design, and “Antennagate” didn’t seem to have any effect on sales. So we wouldn’t be surprised to see the iPhone 4 stick around as Apple’s cheaper iPhone model. But we expect at least some moderate updates this year to the high-end model.

Will Apple finally turn on some more “cloud” services?

Will Apple finally turn on some more "cloud" services?

The iPhone 5′s hardware and software is important, but “cloud” services on the back end are becoming increasingly important for smartphones, and Apple could stand to make some improvements there. For example: How about letting you sync your phone over wi-fi instead of having to plug in a USB cable? How about being able to access your iTunes music library from anywhere? How about being able to grab some of your iPhoto pictures from the road?

How about sharing photos with other iPhone users without having to email them?

Some or all of these features could potentially be built into a new “MobileMe” service, which Apple could potentially make cheaper or even free. Some may have to wait to be built into the next version of Mac OS X, which is expected to ship this year.

But this is an area where Google is doing more interesting things than Apple, so it’s time to wake up.

When will it go on sale?

When will it go on sale?

Apple has launched a new iPhone every June or July since the first one went on sale in 2007. We don’t expect anything different this year.Except that last month, FBR analyst Craig Berger hypothesized that the iPhone 5 launch may be pushed to September because of what he was hearing from the supply chain: “For the iPhone 5, we continue to hear that a July launch is unlikely, with various casing suppliers and touch suppliers still ramping up, with some chip vendors not having yet received firm iPhone 5 orders, and with other sockets like the image sensor … still in flux.”

We believe Apple intends to release the iPhone 5 in the summer, as it has in past years. But anything is possible, including a delay. Though, on the other hand, Apple launched the iPad 2 earlier than expected, albeit in very short supply.

Will iPhone 5 include near field communication (NFC) technology for mobile payments?

Will iPhone 5 include near field communication (NFC) technology for mobile payments?

One of the major new features expected for the iPhone 5 was supposed to be near field communication (NFC) technology, which would allow you to make a payment or exchange media with another iPhone just by holding it close to another NFC device. But the iPad 2 has shipped without NFC, and recently the Independent reported that Apple is telling carriers that the iPhone 5 won’t have it, either.

It looks like Apple’s payment revolution will have to wait another year.

Will the iPhone 5 be 4G? Will the phones be hybrid AT&T/Verizon units? Or separate like the iPhone 4 and iPad 2?

Will the iPhone 5 be 4G? Will the phones be hybrid AT&T/Verizon units? Or separate like the iPhone 4 and iPad 2?

We don’t expect the iPhone 5 to support 4G LTE networks. We think Apple will wait until 2012 for that, in order to have the smallest phones and the best battery life.In theory, there will be a chip someday that lets Apple make a single iPhone that works on both GSM networks like AT&T and CDMA networks like Verizon. Other phones have used these chips for years. But the question is when they will be to Apple’s liking, in terms of size, functionality, and pricing.

This is something we expected for the iPad 2, but Apple instead went with two different 3G lines — separate AT&T and Verizon devices. Perhaps because the dual-mode chips weren’t ready yet. Perhaps because they weren’t cost effective, when the majority of the world doesn’t use CDMA.

Will the iPhone 5 be dual-mode devices? Or just single-mode like existing Apple devices?

Does Apple have another social network up its sleeve? Or will it finally work closer with Facebook?

Is Apple going to continue to move into social networking? We had heard a rumor that it was working on some sort of social app for photo and media sharing, and some code found in an iOS beta called “Media Stream” seems to back that up.As much as we’d like to see Apple make the iPhone more inherently social, we also don’t have much confidence in their understanding of what social tools are all about, how they should be designed, and what makes them fun and useful. Last year, Apple introduced Ping and GameCenter, two social networks. We don’t hear much about them.

So should Apple continue to make its own social tools? Or should it work to integrate existing social networks like Facebook and Twitter deeper into the iOS experience, the way other phones have?

Will it be bigger? Or smaller?

Will it be bigger? Or smaller?

There are regular rumors that Apple is working on smaller or bigger iPhones. We have no doubt that Apple has tested many sizes of iPhones. And rival HP is launching a tiny phone this year called the Veer. But history has shown that Apple is very happy with the size of the iPhone.

If we had to pick either way, we’d expect an iPhone with a slightly larger screen, not a tiny iPhone nano. Nothing too big — probably not like the massive Android phones from the likes of HTC, Samsung, and others. But a bigger screen could be better for games and movies, so maybe someday Apple will make one.

Still, we wouldn’t hold our breath.

Will Apple have an ingenious iPhone case like the iPad 2′s smart cover?

Will Apple have an ingenious iPhone case like the iPad 2's smart cover?

Apple’s “smart cover” for the iPad 2 has really gotten a lot of attention. It’s smart that the cover was designed as part of the iPad, and not as an afterthought. The current iPhone case, the “bumper,” is okay — but if anything, it got stuck in the middle of the Antennagate fiasco. And it’s nothing too special. Just a case with no back.

Will Apple come out with a crazy cover of some sort for the iPhone 5? Or will it just try to make the actual phone more durable so people don’t need a case? The nice thing about the bumper, after all, is that it doesn’t add much bulk to the phone — it’s basically a high-tech rubber band.

How much will it cost? Will there be a “free” iPhone this year? How about lower service fees?

How much will it cost? Will there be a "free" iPhone this year? How about lower service fees?

Image: Dan Frommer, Business Insider

Android phones are starting to creep down in price, and Apple hasn’t really done much with its iPhone pricing since 2008.Will this be the year that the low-end iPhone drops to $0 from $99 after subsidy? Will Apple devise some more plans with the carriers to make data access more affordable for entry-level users?

Is there really a super-cheap iPhone on the way for developing markets?

Preserve and Troubleshoot Your iPhone 4S Battery Guide

Preserve and Troubleshoot Your iPhone 4S Battery Guide

We’ve already heard that the iPhone 4S battery doesn’t last quite as long as that of the iPhone 4. Part of it is the dual-core processor. It’s more power-hungry, but according to some reports, there may be more to it than just that (and Apple is looking into it). Don’t forget, recording video is also a huge battery killer, but lets get into the less obvious stuff.

It seems that the issue may lie in iOS 5 for some. As is expected with new software, there are still a few kinks to work out, and the latest version of Apple’s mobile OS is no exception. The problem may actually have something to do with power management and a few little crash bugs.

First, we suggest going through and turning off all the possible offenders: iCloud sync, wifi sync, location tracking, time zone switch, location-based reminders, and anything else below that affects battery life. Turn all of them off and begin monitoring your battery life.

Then, go down the list. Turn one of the features on, and monitor your battery life. If things are okay. Turn it off again and turn on the next possible offender. Eventually, you should run into the culprit. When that happens, you know that you can safely turn on all the other features and home in on the problem. For example, if it’s a wifi sync, maybe you can start to figure out what part of the sync, if any is going wrong.

An App to Help

One of the best ways that users are finding to help diagnose potential problems is an app called System Activity Monitor (linked below). It’s a 99 cent app that lets you check the processes currently running on your iPhone as well as crash reports and other activities going on behind the scenes with your iPhone. It’s been reported on both the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 running iOS 4.2.1 and iOS 5.

Problems and Solutions

Crash Loops

One of the main problems seems to be crashing loops. Basically, the iPhone tried to access some sort of data, but it crashed. The iPhone tries again to access the data, resulting in another crash, over and over. This is all going on behind the scenes, so the user never sees or notices. However, it is a major drain on the HP probook 4710s battery.

To view your crash logs, go to Settings>General>About>Diagnostics and Usage Data

You may see something like the following:

CrashLog

We have a LowMemory error going on several times as apps crash. Perhaps removing the problematic apps will help.

iCloud Sync

iCloud syncing is said to be a problem with some devices. The Register UK says that a corrupted contact can cause issues. That bit of data is corrupted and the iPhone tries to keep syncing to iCloud to pull the contact data, causing the battery to quickly wear down. Some users said that deleting their contacts has helped, but that sounds like a drastic measure. We always recommend trying absolutely everything you can before clearing out your iOS device.

Time Zone Set to Auto

Another bug that can be a problem, according to reports is that Location Tracking is constantly trying to update coordinates. This happens when the Time Zone is set to auto. It’s suggested that users go to Settings>Location Services>System Services and turn off “Setting Time Zone.” In case you’re wondering what that is, it’s just a feature that allows the iPhone to automatically update the time when you cross time zones.

Wifi Sync

This was the problem with iSmashPhone’s iPhone 4S. For some users, wifi is the cause of short battery life. While the iPhone 4 seems to be doing just fine, as is the iPad. The iPhone 4S would lose about 40 percent of its battery overnight, with no use, of course. We turned off wifi sync, and that seems to have helped immensely.

Plug your iPhone into your computer and open up iTunes. In the iPhone menu, look for the Sync wifi option:

1) The sync option may be on. You will see it checked off as shown below.

2) You can turn it off by unchecking the “Sync this iPhone over wi-fi” option.

Location-based Reminders

Location-based reminders are also battery suckers, we’ve heard. We haven’t had many issues with this, but we’ve only used it for quick tests. Still, it may be worth turning these off if you really need some extra juice.

How to Make Your Android Phone Look Like Windows Phone 7

Android wp7 150x150Inspired by today’s news about Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7‘s latest release, “Mango,” but can’t let go of your beloved Android device? Now you can at least simulate the experience of using Windows Phone thanks to a new Android app, over half a year in development, which brings a Windows Phone-like launcher to Android users.

The new app called WP7 Launcher Lite began as a project featured in – where else? – the XDA Developer forums. Created by forum member TheRedDrake, the goal was to produce something that would provide “the freedom of Android and the grace and elegance of Windows Phone 7.” Now a Lite (free) version of that application is available on the Android Market for you to try. And there are other plenty of other apps that bring you a similar experience, too. We’ve listed a few of these below.

Now Available: WP7 Launcher

Wp7android

The free version of WP7 Launcher, which was just released to the Android Market, allows you to get a taste of the Windows Phone user interface, so you can decide if you want to dive in and pay for the full experience. It also lets you to test the app in advance to make sure it works on your particular Android handset.

This Lite edition has several limitations, including a maximum of 6 Tiles which can be pinned to the homescreen, no ability to change Tile themes or customize fonts, only one “Live Folder” limited to just 3 Tiles,  no integration between the Launcher and the Contacts app (a separate app from the developer called “WP7 Contacts”) and more.

The full version is just 3 Euros ($4.23 US) and is available only from the developer’s website. To get it, you’ll have to adjust the setting on your smartphone that allows you to install off-Market applications if you want to purchase the paid version.

Early reviews of the app on the Market aren’t as favorable as those on the XDA forums site, it should be noted. That’s probably because this app is still in development, and may be buggy. As always, when it comes to Android apps, your mileage may vary, depending on your device. This isn’t a blanket recommendation for the app and we won’t be held accountable if it just crashes and burns on you. (It didn’t for us, though.)

The best iPhone 4 battery cases

The best iPhone 4 battery cases

Need more battery life for your iPhone 4? We’ve reviewed three of the top cases to find which is best.

The iPhone 4 is better than its 3G and 3GS siblings in terms of battery life, but it’s still nowhere near enough for a traveller.

The standard battery lasts about eight hours, which is just enough for the phone to last until the nightly commute home on a normal work day, but when travelling (or even if you forget to charge the phone overnight) that limited battery life is annoying.

We’ve taken a look at three of the latest iPhone battery cases available to discover their pros and cons.

All the cases share some attributes in common: they all charge via a micro USB connector so you won’t be using your iPhone dock cable any more. All the cases come with a micro-USB cord that you can plug into your existing iPhone wall charger. The case and the iPhone battery charge at the same time using the single micro-USB connector.

They all have a dock connector inside the case for your iPhone to plug into, and of course, this connects to the Dell vostro 1510 battery inside the case to keep your smart phone full of juice.

Mophie Juice Pack Air 4

It provides good protection for all sides of the iPhone, with the back fully covered and a protective ridge standing above the edges of the front screen so that if you drop it flat on a pavement the screen won’t make contact.

It has holes in the case to allow direct access to the iPhone’s metal buttons, which makes adjustments easy. The Energizer case, in comparison, makes you press through the silicon case, which requires more effort.

One annoying thing about the Juice Pack Air is that its bright, flashing charging status lights and micro USB charging connector are both at the bottom of the case, so no matter which way you lie it down, your bedroom will be turned into a disco overnight.

There’s a charging on/off switch on the case, which is there to help preserve the life of the battery in the case. Mophie suggests you only switch it to charge when your iPhone is actually low on juice, as the battery case can only be recharged 500 times before its battery will start to fail (and of course, the more often you empty the battery into your iPhone, the more frequently you’ll have to charge the case).

The capacity of the Mobile battery is 1500mAh, which gives a little more than twice the battery life of the iPhone 4′s internal battery, which is rated at 1420mAh.

The Juice Pack Air sells for between $75-$100 at the time of writing.

Padacs PowerCase for iPhone 4

It has holes in the side of the case to allow direct access to the iPhone’s buttons.

The styling of the case is somewhat BlackBerry Torch-esque — gloss black on all sides, with sculpted edges that disguise the heft of the battery. As a result, even the 2200mAh case looks pretty good despite its true bulk.

The fact that the case is sculpted and shiny also makes it the easiest of the three cases to slip in and out of your pocket.

The blue charging indicators are on the back of the case, but unfortunately also on a sculpted part of the case, so even if you lie it flat, it will illuminate your bedroom with a bright, rapidly flashing blue light overnight.

One quibble we had with the case is that by default it does not charge your iPhone — you have to hold down a button on the back of the case for it to start charging. Presumably it has been designed like this so you don’t use the case’s battery unnecessarily for the same reason Mophie puts a switch on its case (see above), but it still feels like the decision has been taken out of your hands a bit.

The other minor downside of the PADACS cases is that the case rim sits flush with the iPhone 4 glass screen, providing very minimal protection for the screen if your drop it hard on its face on an uneven surface like bitumen.

You can buy the PowerCases for $49.95 or $59.95 (depending on capacity) directly from PADACS’ website.

Energizer AP1201 iPhone 4 battery case

The charging indicator for this case is on the back — a series of small, deep blue lights. As a result, if you leave the case on its back overnight, the charging light won’t keep you awake. You can get a read on remaining NOKIA 3310 Mobile Phone Battery life by pressing a small button on one of the corners of the case.

One problem with the Energizer case is that it mostly encloses the phone, so if you want to use the volume buttons on the side or the lock button at the top of the phone, you have to squish them through the silicone, which requires considerably more effort than just pressing the buttons directly. The silent on/off switch is still exposed through a hole, though.

The case also picks up a lot of dust and fluff due to its silicone construction.

Unlike the Padacs or Mophie cases, the Energizer case constantly charges the iPhone — there is no option to turn off its charging to keep the case battery in the best possible condition.

Verdict: the best battery case for iPhone 4

In our testing of these three cases, the clear winner is the PADACS PowerCase. It provides greater HP 484784-001 battery life than any of the other cases, has a shape and texture that makes it super-easy to slip in and out of your pocket, and manages to disguise the bulk of the battery with clever industrial design.

Swapping phone batteries is common, so iPhone owners feel a warning should be issued.  Nonetheless, keeping a recharging dock in more than one location (whether at home or in the workplace).  This is a way to get around the iPhone battery issue.
