How to care for your Laptop Battery<\/h1>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>It is possible that when you first put   the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.batteries-company.com\/\">new laptop battery<\/a> into your laptop it will show it is fully charged almost   straight  away, but it doesn&#8217;t power the laptop for very long. This does   not  mean the battery is faulty, simply take out and reinsert the   battery,  fully charge it once again and this should solve the problem. It may  take some time for certain laptops to recognize new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.batteries-company.com\/\">batteries<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The general recommendation is to fully charge and discharge your  new   battery two to four times to allow it to reach its maximum rated capacity.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li>If you are not going to use the battery for some time  (perhaps a   month or more), remove it from your laptop in a partially  charged (ideally 40%) state, and store it in a cool dry place away from  sources of heat and light.<\/li>\n<li>Never over discharge or short a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.batteries-company.com\/\">Lithium Ion Battery<\/a>.  All  Lithium\u2019s contain a circuit board for making sure the battery is never    over Discharged but if you store the battery at 0% for a prolonged    period the cells can become irreversibly damaged.<\/li>\n<li>Avoid excessive heat. Do not expose the battery to high heat  or   freezing temperatures. Do not leave your battery in your car in  the   summer. Hot batteries discharge very quickly, and cold ones can&#8217;t  create   as much power.<\/li>\n<li>New Batteries Need to be cycled a few times at least. Fully  charge new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.batteries-company.com\/product_category.php\/1+Laptop-Battery\">laptop battery packs<\/a> before use. New pack needs to be fully charged and discharged (cycled) a few times before it can condition to  full capacity.<\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t leave the Battery in a constant state of charging up    that will reduce the life cycle of the battery. Defrag regularly<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0 The faster your hard  drive does its   work \u2013 less demand you are going to put on the hard  drive and your <a href=\"http:\/\/www.batteries-company.com\/hp\/business-notebook-6710s-battery.htm\">Business notebook 6710s battery<\/a>.\u00a0   Make your hard drive as efficient as possible  by defragging it regularly. (but not   while it\u2019s on battery of  course!) Mac OSX is better built to handle   fragmentation so it may not  be very applicable for <a title=\"Apple laptop battery\" href=\"http:\/\/www.batteries-company.com\/apple\/\"><strong>Apple<\/strong><\/a> systems.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Dim your screen<\/strong> \u2013 Most laptops come with the  ability to   dim your laptop screen.\u00a0 Some even come with\u00a0ways to modify  CPU and cooling   performance.\u00a0 Cut them down to the lowest level you  can tolerate to squeeze out   some extra battery juice.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Cut down on programs running in the background<\/strong>.\u00a0  Itunes,   Desktop Search, etc.\u00a0 All these add to the CPU load and cut  down <a href=\"http:\/\/www.batteries-company.com\/20-ways-to-extend-laptop-battery-life.html\">battery life<\/a>.\u00a0   Shut down everything that isn\u2019t crucial when  you\u2019re on battery.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Cut down external devices<\/strong> \u2013 USB devices  (including your   mouse) &amp; WiFi drain down your laptop battery.\u00a0  Remove or shut them down when   not in use.\u00a0 It goes without saying that  charging other devices (like your iPod, <a title=\"Top 30 Best iPad 2 Apps and Games\" href=\"http:\/\/www.batteries-company.com\/battery-care\/top-30-best-ipad-2-apps-and-games.htm\">iPad<\/a>, <a title=\"2011 Top 10 Best Android Cell Phones Reviews and Specifications\" href=\"http:\/\/www.batteries-company.com\/battery-care\/2011-top-10-best-android-cell-phones-reviews-and-specifications.htm\">Android Mobile Phone<\/a>)   with your laptop when on  battery is a surefire way of quickly wiping out the   charge on your <a href=\"http:\/\/www.batteries-company.com\/\">notebook\u00a0 battery<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5. Add more RAM<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0This will allow you to process  more with   the memory your laptop has, rather than\u00a0relying on virtual  memory.\u00a0 Virtual   memory\u00a0results in hard drive use, and is much less  power efficient. Note that   adding more RAM will consume more energy,  so this is most applicable if you do   need to run memory intensive  programs which actually require heavy usage of   virtual memory.<\/p>\n<p><strong>6. Run off a hard drive rather than CD\/DVD &#8211; <\/strong>As  power   consuming as hard drives are, CD and DVD drives are worse.\u00a0 Even  having one in   the drive can be power consuming.\u00a0 They spin, taking  power, even when they?re   not actively being used.\u00a0 Wherever possible,  try to run on virtual\u00a0drives using   programs like Alcohol 120% rather    than optical ones.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.batteries-company.com\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-169\" title=\"battery-warranty\" src=\"http:\/\/www.batteries-company.com\/battery-care\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/battery-warranty.jpg\" alt=\"Quality laptop battery shop\" width=\"740\" height=\"99\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.batteries-company.com\/battery-care\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/battery-warranty.jpg 740w, https:\/\/www.batteries-company.com\/battery-care\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/battery-warranty-300x40.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 740px) 100vw, 740px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>7.\u00a0 Keep the battery contacts clean:<\/strong> Clean your  battery\u2019s   metal contacts every couple of months with a cloth  moistened with rubbing   alcohol.\u00a0 This keeps the transfer of power from  your battery more efficient.<\/p>\n<p><strong>8. Also, do   not let a Li-On battery completel discharge. (Discharing is only for older batteries with memory  effects)<\/p>\n<p><strong>9. Hibernate not standby<\/strong> \u2013 Although placing a  laptop in   standby mode saves some power and you can instantly resume  where you left off,   it doesn\u2019t save anywhere as much power\u00a0as  the\u00a0hibernate function does.\u00a0   Hibernating a PC will actually save your  PC\u2019s state as it is, and completely   shut itself down.<\/p>\n<p><strong>10.\u00a0Keep operating temperature down <\/strong>&#8211; Your  laptop operates   more efficiently when it\u2019s cooler.\u00a0 Clean out\u00a0your air  vents with a cloth or   keyboard cleaner, or refer to some extra tips  by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.batteries-company.com\/\">batteries-company.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>11.\u00a0Set up and optimize your power options<\/strong> \u2013 Go  to \u2018Power   Options\u2019 in your windows control panel and set it up so that  power usage is optimized (Select the \u2018max battery\u2019 for maximum  effect).<\/p>\n<p><strong>12.\u00a0Don\u2019t multitask<\/strong> \u2013 Do one thing at a time  when you\u2019re on   battery.\u00a0 Rather than working on a spreadsheet,  letting\u00a0your email client run   in\u00a0the background and listening to your  latest set of MP3\u2032s, set your mind to   one thing only.\u00a0 If you don\u2019t  you\u2019ll only drain out your batteries before anything gets completed!<\/p>\n<p><strong>13. Go easy on the PC demands<\/strong> \u2013 The more you  demand from   your PC.\u00a0 Passive activities like email and word  processing consume much less power than gaming or playing a DVD.\u00a0 If  you\u2019ve got a single <a href=\"http:\/\/www.batteries-company.com\/product_category.php\/7+Battery-Charger\">battery charge<\/a> \u2013 pick your priorities wisely.<\/p>\n<p><strong>14<em>. <\/em>Get yourself a more efficient laptop<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0 Laptops are getting more and more efficient in nature to the point  where some <a href=\"http:\/\/www.batteries-company.com\/\">laptop battery manufacturers<\/a> are talking about all day long batteries.\u00a0  Picking up a newer more efficient\u00a0laptop to replace an   aging one is  usually a quick fix.<\/p>\n<p><strong>15. Prevent the Memory Effect &#8211;<\/strong> If you\u2019re using a  very old   laptop, you\u2019ll want to prevent the \u2018memory effect\u2019 \u2013 Keep  the battery healthy by   fully charging and then fully discharging it at  least once every two to three   weeks.
